Our client, a leading and growing not-for-profit STM Open Access journal publisher, is expanding and requires an Associate Editor – Physical Sciences, to join its multidisciplinary OA Journals team.

Reporting to the Division Editor, the Associate Editor will work with other editors to oversee the Physical Sciences & Engineering editorial processes from submissions to publication. This is a busy role where the main responsibilities include:

  • Assessing new submissions and guiding manuscripts through the review process
  • Overseeing editorial decisions
  • Providing support and training to external Academic Editors
  • Providing input in the recruitment of new Academic Editors
  • Contributing to the development of editorial policies and processes
  • Representing the OA Journals at scientific meetings
  • Contributing to initiatives to curate and promote contents in subject area of oversight.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in a scientific research environment and a strong familiarity with scholarly literature. You will have excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, able to adapt to a fast-paced innovative environment. Candidates with a PhD qualification or research experience in physical sciences or engineering are desirable but other scientific disciplines are welcome. Experience of peer review and publishing standards for original research publications would be an advantage. This role will suit someone looking to move from research into OA publishing or seeking to advance their editorial experience.
