Managing Editor – OA Journal Development

Our client, a leading and growing not-for-profit STM Open Access journal publisher, is looking for a Managing Editor for journal development to join its multidisciplinary OA Journals team.

Working collaboratively with the journals’ Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Boards, the Managing Editor will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with the scientific community in order to grow engagement and develop the journals. The main responsibilities include:

  • Setting, developing and implementing editorial strategies
  • Together with the Marketing team setting and delivering usage, market share, quality and reputation KPIs
  • Developing and leading the implementation of journal commissioning plans
  • Maintaining awareness of the competitor landscape and the requirements of the scientific community to inform strategy
  • Leading and developing Editorial Boards including identifying and recruiting Editorial Board members
  • Together with the Journals Publishing Director set and manage budgets and forecasts
  • Identifying new opportunities for products and services and developing plans and proposals where required
  • Building and maintaining an international scientific network through conference attendance
  • Leading, developing and managing the performance of editorial teams.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a scientific discipline and will have considerable experience in STM Publishing and enjoy networking with research communities and working closely with Editorial Boards. They will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, as well as previous experience of leading and motivating a team. Moreover they will be excellent communicators and problem-solvers, with strong analytical skills.
