Our client, one of the world’s most prestigious academic publishers, is looking for a Senior Commissioning Editor – STM Journals, to be responsible for journal ideation, research, and development, in support of their Open Access STM growth and investment strategy.

Reporting to the Publisher, Open Access STM Journals, the main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing ideation, strategy, launch, development and project management of OA titles
  • Creating convincing business proposals, ensuring buy-in across multiple stakeholders
  • Recruiting authoritative Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Boards
  • Collaborating/forming partnerships with external partners/innovators in the OA environment
  • Ensuring financial success and growth of new and existing products
  • OA flips and acquisitions
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure priorities are identified, resolved & communicated
  • Setting and monitoring of journal accounts, budget setting, and expenditure tracking
  • Creating workflows and solutions for the scalable development of the OA programme
  • Being an advocate for the OA journals programme, representing internally and externally.

The ideal candidate will have solid experience in an STM Journal environment and have demonstrable experience managing relationships with external editors, authors, and societies. Knowledge of scoping and launching new STM products and an understanding of OA/OR policies and environments is essential. Superb organisational, project management, and communication skills are required, as are entrepreneurial skills and a keen interest in new online product innovation and development. A higher degree qualification in a scientific subject is desirable.
