Senior Manager, Community Outreach – Open Access

Our client, a leading and growing not-for-profit STM Open Access journal publisher, is expanding and requires a Senior Manager, Community Outreach, to work closely and collaboratively with stakeholders across their organisation to develop, refine, and hone outreach strategy and programs.

Reporting to Outreach & Journals Marketing Director, the Senior Manager will work closely with the Editorial department and use data and competitive research to develop positioning and messaging. The main responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in developing and executing strategic and tactical outreach programs
  • Utilising data, market and business trends, and researcher needs to shape objectives
  • Building multi-channel and sustained communications programs
  • Evaluating customer and competitive research and market conditions
  • Collaborating with Editorial/Outreach teams to develop opportunities for in-person events
  • Developing and overseeing the conference program
  • Developing effective, value-based messaging based on data-driven contributor needs
  • Assisting in the development of dynamic marketing collateral in line with brand identity
  • Using metrics to recommend improvements to communications efforts
  • Directly managing community outreach staff and third-party vendors/outsources support.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in product marketing within academic journals, ideally Open Access products, and have experience taking products or programs from inception to full launch. Candidates must have experience managing or mentoring in-house staff as well as remote, temporary or contractor contributors and be a people-manager with proven experience building and developing teams. The ability to develop outreach strategies with limited guidance and superior project management skills are essential. Strong collaboration and communication skills and excellent attention to detail are required.
