An academic and research publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit an Associate Director Data Science to develop a data science competency throughout the organisation. The role will be responsible for directing the overall strategy of Data Science, making strategic recommendations to executive level partners and will be at the forefront of managing AI ethics.

Associate Director Data Science: Key responsibilities

  • Establish and manage a data science competency to support future growth by leading, managing, and mentoring internal and external data science resources
  • Provide expertise and architectural direction to guide key data science initiatives
  • Lead multiple projects and participate in development, validation, and delivery of algorithms and tools
  • Establish and maintain a framework for the full development cycle of machine learning models and data-driven tools that drive commercial impact in business areas like marketing, pricing, demand forecasting, and search engine optimization
  • Develop and continually review and adapt the Data Science vision, desired future state, and Data Science strategy to provide direction for the business
  • Lead development of documentation and processes to better standardize the Data Science function to continually improve project delivery
  • Provide framework for governing AI solutions including effective management of AI ethics
  • Leads long-term data science strategy in collaboration with business leaders.

Associate Director Data Science: Skills/experience

  • Significant previous experience building data science teams at enterprise scale
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstratable experience developing and designing best practices for leading high-functioning data science teams
  • Experience in leading and developing teams focused on building statistical modelling, experimental set-up, data analysis, predictive model development, deployment
  • Ability to develop relationships and positively influence key, strategic position holders across locations and functions
  • Broad, deep technical knowledge and experience within data science
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and good attention to detail
  • Significant experience of planning, organizing, and leading major projects
  • Demonstratable experience of making independent, strategically aligned decisions in pressurized situations.
