Associate Director Special Collections – Open Access, Journals

A leading global academic publisher has a fantastic opportunity for an Associate Director, OA Special Collections to join their dynamic team who are passionate about open access special collections. The role will be responsible for leading the strategic development of journals special collections programme with management responsibility for a cross-functional team of Editorial and Marketing staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the special collections programme, combining both editorial and marketing efforts for a cohesive approach
  • Manage a cross-functional team to develop and execute the editorial and marketing strategies for the special collections programme
  • Set, monitor, and report on targets and Key Performance Indicators for the special collections programme
  • Oversee, develop, embed and streamline operations and processes across marketing and editorial teams to enable the teams to function effectively
  • Analyse and utilise marketing data to achieve customer engagement, loyalty, and success in growing collection proposals and manuscript submissions
  • Own the team’s communications strategy to ensure all stakeholders are up to date with plans and progress
  • Effect change management for new practices and processes
  • Identify current and future market trends and define, lead and shape the special collections programme strategy over time
  • Instil and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion within the team.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience leading a team and proven experience of strategic planning for a product or product lines. Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing operational workflows and processes are essential. High level communication skills including presentation and relationship building skills are required to communicate information clearly to stakeholders at all management levels. Highly effective delegation skills will be essential and experience of working as part of a cross functional project or matrix team structure. Individuals must have significant ability to lead on decision making and be able to bring people along with new ideas and be effective change management drivers. Suitable candidates will have a good understanding of industry trends and best practice combined with a strong technical aptitude and a flexible and creative approach to problem-solving.
