Our client, a global academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years, is looking for a Commissioning Editor to join their successful Books editorial team. Reporting into the Associate Director responsible for Psychology and Business & Management lists, the Commissioning Editor will be responsible for finding and contracting news books and new editions. Central to the role will be building effective relationships with authors and internal colleagues to achieve project goals and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities
- Commission new titles and new editions from an agreed hitlist to create a pipeline of future publishing
- Contributes to list strategy formation and hitlisting
- Transmits manuscripts to achieve frontlist budget
- Builds relationships and works closely with authors to ensure projects remain on schedule and are delivered to plan
- Proposes and monitors costs and agrees pricing on each title to achieve profitability
- Develop market knowledge through campus-calling and desk-based research to inform publishing and strategic plans
- Represents the company at conferences and author meetings to maintain a positive impression
- Manage or delegate effectively to an Assistant to ensure they provide strong administrative support.
Suitable candidates will have strong organisational and prioritisation skills and be able to communicate effectively with many different stakeholders, internally and externally. Ideally candidates will have a good knowledge of the academic books market and a key understanding of the processes within academic publishing. Previous experience of planning and carrying out effective market research and examples of commercial acumen would be advantageous.
