An academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit a Content Development Manager to join the Editorial team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Content Development team to drive the quality and marketability of the organisations core products. A recognised specialist in pedagogy, who enjoys strategy formation and implementation would be well suited to this role which requires sharing knowledge and providing input for Editorial Board decisions.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages the resourcing, scheduling and delivery of Content Development for the Editorial Department
  • Manages the Content Development Editor(s) to achieve their critical metrics, Tracks and reports on team progress against metrics
  • Provides Content Development for assigned textbooks
  • Works with senior leaders to create, communicate and embed Content Development strategy for textbooks
  • Advises the Editorial Board and provides input on decisions regarding content and market development strategies
  • Manages the departmental budget for freelance editorial work
  • Works closely with leaders in Editorial, Production, Design, Sales and Marketing to ensure priorities are aligned and there is good collaboration and efficiency
  • Leads the growth of Content Development “know-how” within the wider editorial team
  • Continuously identifies process efficiencies and defines standard practice.

Experience

Ideal candidates for this role will have previous experience in developing successful textbooks with a proven ability to think strategically and turn strategy into tactical action plans. Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines and budget are essential for this role. Previous experience of assessing projects needs and allocating resources and managing people such as freelancers and developing a team is essential. Candidates with the confidence and ability to effectively chair meetings and present information clearly and engagingly are best suited to this role.  Extensive knowledge of pedagogy in educational markets and previous experience of conducting small scale market research would be advantageous.
