Our client, a not-for-profit global research organisation who are devoted to the publication of their respected, international OA Journal, is looking for a Managing editor to drive the strategy and continued growth of the journal together with the day-to-day management of editorial operations.

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the main responsibilities include:
- Managing the peer review process from article submission to acceptance
- Responsibility for the online submission system, including timely submissions/developments
- Coordinating all editorial developments among key stakeholders, ensuring collaboration in carrying out planned developments
- Organising all editorial meetings and recording and coordinating follow-up actions
- Assuming responsibility for the development plan and performance indicators
- Initiating and project-managing tasks required in making progress towards journal objectives
- Liaising with publisher staff to ensure cohesion between the journal and ?? activities
- Commissioning review articles or special articles/issues, following up with authors
- Maintaining awareness of developments in the journal’s competitive environment, identifying new initiatives
- Liaising with the publisher to ensure best publishing practice and a high-quality service
- Preparing reports, market research and data analysis for stakeholders on performance.
Successful candidates will have significant experience within a journal editorial capacity, together with experience of the biomedical or biological sciences, and an understanding of biomedical research processes. The ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, liaising with a wide group of stakeholders and demonstrable ability to communicate with confidence and authority with senior scientists is essential. Excellent influencing, organisational, and time-management skills are required. Knowledge or experience of medical OA research publishing or a relevant PhD is desirable. This role includes some countrywide and international travel to represent the journal at scientific meetings.
