Peer Review Manager x 2 (12-month FTC & Perm) – Scholarly Publishing

Our client, a global academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years, is looking for a Peer Review Manager to join their team. There are two roles available, one permanent position and one a 12-month FTC. Reporting into the Executive Peer Review Manager this role will support the management of the Peer Review Team to ensure the delivery of high quality and efficient peer review processes to authors, editors and reviewers.

Key responsibilities

  • Management responsibility for Editorial Assistants and Assistant Editors within the peer review management team
  • Propose and, where possible, implement positive changes to the peer review policies and processes
  • Investigate and advise on peer review standards of journals where concerns arise
  • Identify and improve areas of concern with the aim of delivering an efficient and effective peer review process
  • Assist with definition of priorities and objectives for the Peer Review Management team and develop metrics to measure and report on progress, success and benefits
  • Participate and actively collaborate across the business to ensure that the peer review programme is competitive with industry standards
  • Develop and maintain resources around peer review matters to support journal managers
  • Support the Executive Peer Review Manager as required with development of departmental strategy, projects and initiatives.

Ideal candidates will have proven experience in a journals editorial role with a focus on per review. Previous experience of line-management or supervisory experience is essential. A detailed understanding of online journal peer review and the submission systems will be required preferably with direct experience of working with ScholarOne Manuscripts. Excellent project management skills will be central to the role partnered with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient IT skills are desired.
