Research Culture Manager – Life Science Publishing

Our client, an independent non-profit organisation, is dedicated to enhancing the integrity, collaboration, and impact of scientific research. They are seeking a Research Culture Manager to join their Communities team and lead a portfolio of projects aimed at improving research culture. Reporting to the Head of Communities, the successful candidate will leverage their understanding of the research cycle and its infrastructure to develop strong collaborative networks with external research stakeholders.
Support the development and delivery of the research culture strategy and action plan in collaboration with the Head of Communities, and other stakeholders
Provide oversight and support for the implementation of their “Code of Conduct”
Work collaboratively to promote equity, diversity and inclusion through activities, including the implementation of their strategic framework
Analyse and interpret research culture data to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement
Monitor and provide regular internal and public reports on progress toward research culture and equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
Formally document and amplify research culture activities and their effects to ensure thorough integration and commitment to the research culture strategy
Sustain a consistent publication schedule of research culture-related content on the website and newsletters
Raise the profile of key issues in research culture and the organisations work in this space through thought-leadership
Steadily review existing policies and propose new and relevant ones to plug gaps
Developing systems and processes to facilitate, monitor, re-evaluate, and report on research culture activities
Collating data through regular periodic surveys to evidence the impact of the work and influence the narratives on outcomes and impacts
Liaising with partners to respond to external directives in research culture
Represent on national and international bodies, where improving research culture is the key objective.
Research Culture Manager: Skills/experience
Experience in a research culture, project management, equity and inclusion policy role or similar
A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity & inclusion
Strong grasp of the dynamics of publishing including efforts to transform them, through the promotion of preprints and open peer review
Experience of developing and managing new processes and /or strategic initiatives and evaluating their effectiveness
Broad cultural awareness and a collaborative, constructive attitude
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Proven success in designing, managing and delivering simultaneous projects
Ability to understand, distil and explain complex policies and procedures
Experience of gathering, analysing, and interpreting quantitative and/or qualitative data, undertake desktop research and report writing
Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to listen without judgement
Understanding of confidentiality and the ability to manage sensitive information
An interest to seek continuous development
Desirable:
First-hand experience working with distributed communities
Understanding and experience – including lived – of minoritised and underrepresented communities and the efforts to work for balance of access and equality of opportunity
A passion for equity and experience in effecting change
A postgraduate degree.
