An esteemed global research publisher, renowned for its exceptional growth over the past decade, is actively seeking an accomplished Associate Director, Research Journals to join their dynamic Editorial team. The pivotal role entails leading a team and formulating strategies for a designated journal portfolio.
Associate Director, Research Journals: Key responsibilities
Lead a team to achieve their targets and to develop their knowledge and skills
Contribute to the leadership and development of the department through active participation in the Department Managers Group and other relevant structures
Responsible for developing the quality, profile, market share and financial performance of titles within the assigned portfolios
Build and maintain positive relationships acting as an ambassador for the organisation with the wider industry, developing the status and reputation as an international publisher in the necessary subject areas
Oversee the successful negotiation and renewal of contracts, providing guidance on financial decisions and approving contracts, in accordance with defined parameters
Assess business opportunities, confidently advising and leading on activities for new business acquisitions
Prepare and review profit and loss statements accurately, analysing them in the context of commercial requirements and the competitive environment
Identify current and future market trends; contribute to and assist in the implementation of the editorial strategy
Associate Director, Research Journals: Skills/experience
Extensive experience in journals publishing, ideally including proven and successful acquisitions experience
Strong leadership and decision-making skills
Financial acumen and sound commercial judgement, with a track record of profitable list development
High level relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Highly effective delegation skills and the ability to cascade information appropriately
Strategic awareness, including a deep understanding of industry trends and best practice, and the ability to apply this knowledge to craft journal projects and tactical planning
Expert project management and prioritisation skills and a high level of adaptability
Proficient in standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office
A competitive salary of £64,530-77,530, bonus, and benefits package is offered.
