Our client, a leading independent academic and professional publisher is looking for an Associate Editor (14 month FTC) to lead on commissioning and developing content for new collections. Joining a team that is responsible for the development of new digital-first content for teaching and learning about research methods, this is an exciting role working in a dynamic part of the organisation. The role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver diverse engaging content.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on a dedicated collection to deliver and meet commissioning targets
  • Take responsibility for product launch dates
  • Contribute significantly to the creation of content modules by developing commissioning strategies
  • Manage the peer review/script and footage review process to ensure high quality of content
  • Work closely with authors, external content partners and vendors to make sure content is submitted to deadlines and developed to an excellent academic standard
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties that support timely delivery of content to production
  • Identify potential licensing partners for new collections
  • Train Editorial Assistants, and mentor and line manage interns
  • Commission content to budget
  • Assist with the development of content strategy
  • Contribute positively to departmental and cross departmental meetings and look for opportunities to improve workflows and processes.

Ideal candidates will have commissioning experience in digital or print-based product development and can work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills are essential with the ability to delegate effectively. Due to the nature of the role a strong attention to detail is essential and the ability to work independently but also as part of a team is required. Good relationship management skills will help build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with authors. Strong IT skills particularly Microsoft Office is desired.
