Our client, a leading independent academic and professional publisher, is seeking a Business Data and Reporting Analyst to support their Hybrid and Open Access journals’ editorial function. This role involves developing and delivering analytics and reporting solutions that transform data into actionable insights. It offers an excellent opportunity to enhance the internal data culture and promote data-driven communication.
Business Data & Reporting Analyst: Key responsibilities
Implement, manage, maintain, and develop existing reports and dashboards across the Journals Editorial function
Quickly acquire a good understanding of the critical data sources regarding availability, integrity, complexity and ownership to ensure reports and analyses are complete, consistent and understood
Troubleshoot, resolve and drive improvement to existing reporting and data visualisations, with a keen interest in automation
Support connections between Editorial and core publishing functions to help design, originate and maintain all strategic reports
Effectively prioritise and manage multiple data-focused requests through delivery with a high degree of accuracy and on time completion
Help to identify and document existing editorial report processes to ensure reported data is maintained, up-to-date and accurate, while seeking process improvement opportunities through lean principles
Where required, contribute to data culture efforts through delivery of training to and support for editorial business users on existing and new reports and data tools
Help evaluate acquisitions of new third-party data sources and assist in implementing and using these sources to achieve business benefits for Editorial
Quickly assimilate knowledge of the strategy, customers, and markets while embracing our client’s mission and values.
Business Data & Reporting Analyst: Skills/experience
A proven record of collaborative work with other highly skilled data analysts and data coordinators to produce and present clear reports and data visualisations that are user-friendly and accessible to stakeholders
Data analyst experience and applied critical thinking and analytical skills to solve real-world business problems
Knowledge of the journal publishing industry and an understanding of Open Access business models
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office 365 apps (including advanced skills in Excel and proficiency in Power BI, along with DAX, Power Query, and Excel Power Pivot), SQL, and API integrations
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Good relationship management skills and confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the business
Negotiation skills, including working effectively with stakeholders in other departments with competing priorities and resources.
