Retained Director of Online Course Development – Cambridge Education Group

 

£98,000 – 104,000 plus bonus plus strong benefits

Our client, Cambridge Education Group (CEG), is seeking a new Director of Online Course Development for its iheed and CEG Digital divisions. CEG Digital partners with prestigious, high-quality universities to deliver online or blended courses to a global market on a part-time, flexible basis.

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, the Director of Online Course Development is responsible for defining and executing the organisation’s product/course development vision, strategy, and roadmap across all online academic programmes delivered in partnership with universities. The role sits at the intersection of product strategy, academic quality, student experience, commercial performance, and technology innovation, ensuring that the organisation meets its financial and operational goals.

This role requires a leader with deep experience in course development, product management and education technology, and a passion for transforming careers through online education.

Director of Online Course Development: Key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product lifecycle from programme ideation through to online course design, delivery optimisation, and continuous improvement
  • Course Development Strategy and Vision – Develop and articulate the product vision and strategy aligned with the company’s mission and goals aligned to partner university priorities
  • Course Development – Oversee the full course development lifecycle from ideation to launch, ensuring timely and successful delivery of new courses and enhancements within budget
  • Innovation and Technology Integration – Manage and evolve online learning environments including LMSs, integrated third party products, integrations with internal systems, content development infrastructure etc
  • Team Leadership – Build and lead a high-performing course development/product team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence
  • Student Experience and Satisfaction – Develop and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality educational content that meets academic standards, accessibility requirements, and regulatory expectations across geographies
  • Stakeholder Management – Provide updates to Senior Leadership Team on performance and strategic initiatives and representation at industry events, conferences, and professional networks.

Director of Online Course Development: Skills/experience

  • Extensive management experience in the online education sector
  • Deep expertise in online learning technologies, pedagogical design, and digital education ecosystems
  • Proven success in a senior leadership role scaling operations and managing cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated success in developing and launching innovative online education products
  • Experience applying course development, product strategy, market intelligence, and data driven decision making to drive growth
  • Experience in developing postgraduate programmes
  • Experience applying course development, product strategy, market intelligence, and data driven decision making to drive growth
  • Experience with medical education is desirable but not essential
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate vision and insights into actionable plans
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and influencing capability
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.

A competitive reward package is offered including a salary of £98,000 – 104,000 plus bonus plus strong benefits.
