Our client, a leading academic publisher with significant global presence is looking to recruit a Commissioning Editor to join their successful Editorial team. Working alongside the Senior Commissioning Editor for Nursing, the focus will be on textbooks for trainee nurses and health professionals.

Reporting to the Director – Books Editorial, the role will require the successful candidate to build positive working relationships with authors and collaborate effectively with internal colleagues in order to deliver projects and meet strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing a deep understanding of the Market and assessing opportunities for publishing new books and editions
- Commissioning new titles and new editions, working to a hitlist and targets
- Contributing to list strategy formation and hitlisting
- Managing multiple projects at different stages of the production process simultaneously
- Making commercial decisions, managing project costs and analysing sales and financial data
- Establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with authors
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues at each stage of the book production including the design, marketing and selling of the books you work on
- Representing the company at conference and author meetings.
Suitable candidates will have strong organisational and prioritisation skills and be able to communicate effectively with many different stakeholders, internally and externally. Ideally candidates will have good knowledge of the academic publishing market or demonstrate an interest in gaining this knowledge.
