Education Policy Manager – STM Society

One of the UKs leading STM Societies is looking to appoint an Education Policy Manager on a full-time contract until August 2021 to be responsible for the strategic management of Education policy activities relating to teaching and learning at all levels.

The main purpose of this role is to manage staff responsible for influencing education policy in the UK and Ireland in relation to the recruitment, retention and professional development of teachers, and to the development and implementation of qualifications and curricula for schools, colleges and universities. Reporting to the Education and Professional Practice Director, you will work collaboratively as a part of the Directorate, contributing to the long-term vision for the society with the following key accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership to develop the future direction and strategic management of the society’s education policy activities
  • Contribute to the society’s Thought Leadership agenda by liaising with colleagues on the messaging, communication and underpinning research supporting education policy initiatives
  • Contribute to the strategy and vision of the Education and Professional Practice directorate
  • Conduct research and develop an evidence base to inform the society’s education policy initiatives
  • Develop policy initiatives and influence education policy and policy makers in STEM education at a national level
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders (including sister societies and government agencies) in pursuit of the society’s charitable objectives
  • Responsible for the management, performance, development and motivation of staff.

Suitable candidates will have demonstrable experience of influencing policy in the education sector, the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with senior policy makers and to build strong networks and significant change-management experience.
