Our client, an independent non-profit mission-driven organisation led by scientists specialising in scientific research is looking for an Interim Head of Journal Development. Reporting to the Head of Publishing and overseeing a Journal Development Editor this role has primary responsibility to plan, manage and achieve the organisations journal development strategy and goals.

Key responsibilities

Planning the journal development teams work and priorities, including planning around growth, submissions, outreach, business development, and routine team management
Planning and managing the journal development strategy in consultation with Head of Publishing & the editorial leadership team
Overseeing the execution of journal development initiatives and achievement of associated objectives and targets
Developing external partnerships and contributing to business development strategies
Researching, identifying and recommending opportunities for journal development
Directing and supporting the work of a Journal Development Editor
Fostering editorial community involvement in journal development initiatives
Collaborating with other internal teams in the design and realisation of organisational goals.

Ideal candidates will have significant relevant experience with a successful track record planning and implementing journal development, editorial or publishing strategies. Demonstrable success of increasing article submissions, establishing external partnerships and improved community engagement is essential. Individuals suited to this role are self-motivated and able to work independently. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders as well as motivating a team are essential. An excellent understanding of the publishing and research community is required.
