Our client a global research publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit a Managing Editor for their STM Journals team.

The Managing Editor will manage the peer review and editorial development of leading STM journals with the following key responsibilities:

  • Managing the peer review processes within agreed timeframes
  • Ensuring all published content meets required ethical and scientific standards
  • Identifying and recommending changes to peer review processes to improve efficiency
  • Hands-on journal development, including article-level commissioning, original research article solicitation and special collection development
  • Building specialised scientific knowledge of allocated subject areas
  • Selecting and inviting peer reviewers
  • Making final accept/reject/revise decisions with external editors and internal Managing Editors
  • Managing existing titles and developing editorial boards
  • Driving journal growth via increased submissions and appropriate acceptance rates.

The successful candidate will have experience in journals publishing in an editorial role, ideally within STM Journals, with appropriate peer-review experience. A proactive approach with good commercial awareness and a strong understanding of the journals publishing business. Excellent relationship management skills and the confidence to work with a large number of internal and external stakeholders, including senior academics. A background in engineering or physical sciences to at least BSc and ideally a higher degree is essential.
