One of the Worlds’ leading STM Societies is looking to appoint a Policy Advisor on a full-time or part time permanent contract to work on topical policy issues and commission cutting-edge policy research, in order to further chemistry and the chemical sciences for the good of humanity.

Reporting to the Policy and Evidence Manager, Key accountabilities for the Policy Advisor will include:

  • Lead and manage research projects, carrying out analysis and research relating to policy development
  • Seek and commission research from colleagues, analyse this and use it to develop policy positions and to influence decision-makers in support of these
  • Research, develop and communicate in support of policy positions
  • Develop knowledge and expertise on key policy areas
  • Write and contribute to high quality, persuasive and evidence-based briefing papers, consultation inputs, web pages, blogs and reports and publications on relevant issues for a variety of audiences including government, policy-makers, senior leadership and Governance Boards
  • Maintain and communicate information about key activities and developments within the chemical sciences environment which relate to Government and EU policy priorities
  • Work with communications teams to ensure that the policy positions are well communicated internally and to external stakeholders
  • Represent society interests externally at events and meetings with stakeholders and policy makers
  • Organise and contribute to events and meetings, by identifying speakers and roundtable participants, developing and executing communications plans and working with others to develop content.

Suitable candidates will have demonstrable experience in a relevant role in public, private, higher education, research or charity sectors requiring an understanding of policy development. A track record of developing, planning, delivering and reviewing complex projects and the ability to research, commission and evaluate detailed, complex quantitative and qualitative information and form clear recommendations tailored to different audiences is required. Degree in science is preferred.
