Production Editor – STM Journals – Part time

Our Client, an international non-for-profit STM society, is looking for a part time Production Editor to work a 21 hour week on a permanent basis to help manage the production of a growing portfolio of journals. This role could be fully home-based anywhere in the UK.

Reporting to the Production and Operations Manager, the main responsibilities include:

Take a lead in the launch of new journals whilst adhering to production KPIs
Achieve production times in line with KPIs
Maintain excellent working relationship with key suppliers to ensure that content is delivered to the required standard
Develop contacts with new suppliers
Work very closely with typesetters to ensure that content is delivered to required standard
Liaise with platform providers, typesetters and submission system to ensure that coding requirements are clearly understood
Have a full understanding of coding requirements in order to troubleshoot issues
Ensure content is delivered and available in downstream systems/indexers
Generate timely statistical reports for Publishers
Working closely with Publishers and Publishing Assistants to ensure that publishing process and service to authors is of a standard in line with KPIs
Handle up to a maximum of 360 published articles per year
Check and coding supplier invoices.

Successful candidates will have at least 3 years’ experience in a production journal environment, be able to handle multiple projects and to plan and schedule resources to cope with fluctuating workload. Good IT skills including Adobe Acrobat and good working knowledge of XML and coding is required. Excellent Copyediting and proofreading skills along with a good awareness of latest production developments within the publishing industry is also required.
