Our Client, an international not-for-profit STM publisher leading in scientific and clinical education and research, is recruiting for two Publisher vacancies to join their growing Publishing team. Reporting to the Senior Publisher, the roles will focus on developing and implementing strategies for the growth and development of new and existing journals. As part of a small society publisher the successful candidates will gain broad experience across many aspects of journal publishing.
Lead the development of a strategy for each fully OA and hybrid journal in line with the publishing team’s strategic and commercial goals
Monitor competitors for new article types, features and services, and new products in order to inform ideas for product development
Keep up to date with developments in the relevant scientific fields (including through analysis of citation data) and develop a network of contacts to inform strategy and commission in the subject area
Identify opportunities for acquisition of publishing products or commercial opportunities
Prepare and carry out a plan of commissioning activities for each product to achieve growth in the profitability of the individual products and the wider portfolio
Attend events to commission content for the journals, as well as acting as an ambassador for the portfolio of products
Manage the membership of editorial boards to ensure that there is sufficient subject expertise
Take ownership of the budget for each journal in the portfolio, working with the relevant staff to set the budget and targets, provide forecasts and monitor the financial performance of the products.
Publisher: Skills/experience
Experience of STM journal publishing
A sciences degree (preferably in the life sciences) and/or proven experience of engaging with scientific subjects
Experience of commissioning journal articles or applicable experience
Understanding of publishing metrics and ability to carry out statistical analysis
Familiarity with journal budgets or relevant experience
Highly organized with good time management
The ability to network and gather information from many different sources
Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good analytical skills
Creative thinking/problem solving.
