Content Manager – Journals Production

An academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit a Content Manager to join their journals production department, responsible for the content of a large portfolio of journals with a high level of oversight, shepherding content from author to online and/or print with an emphasis on speed, quality and top-notch communication.

Reporting to the Content Team Manager, the Content Manager will have the following key responsibilities;

  • Manage complex transition of journals into new models while maintaining journal performance
  • Take full responsibility for the publication of their list of journals
  • Keeps manager and internal publishing editor informed of any developments affecting scheduling, relationships or budgeting, and liaises with other departments as required
  • Ensure individual articles are completed by suppliers to agreed turnaround times and quality
  • Act as an escalation point, making decisions and resolving complex queries effectively and independently
  • Report on KPIs of both the journals and vendors
  • Monitor project progress, risks and issues, addressing projects that are going off track and escalating to the senior leadership team as appropriate
  • Create and embed workflow streamlining possibilities and new metadata requirements, liaising with Editorial, PTD and IT and operating within a lean framework
  • Take responsibility for quality of metadata accompanying articles, as required by the business
  • Take a key role in cross-department projects.

The successful candidate will be an experienced production editor, extremely well organised with an ability to prioritise a heavy and varied workload. Adept at tailoring communication for different audiences and resolving complex editor and journal queries. You will be well versed in collaborative working and comfortable with project management and workflow streamlining. Above all you will have a keen interest in new publishing technologies, metadata and innovation and be excited about taking a key role in the department’s transition to a vendor supplier model.
