Our client, a worldwide scientific membership society has an exciting opportunity to join its Editorial team as a Journal Development Editor. Reporting to the Head of Journal Development, the role is responsible for supporting the strategic development and delivery of editorial projects whilst increasing the high-quality content in the journals.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Contribute to the strategic management and development of the journals list by collaborating with stakeholders to create and implement innovative editorial strategies
  • Identify topics, institutions and groups to be targeted for commissioning purposes
  • Alongside the Head of Journal Development regularly audit journals to monitor compliance with industry best practice and ethical policies
  • Contribute to the delivery of an annual report on bibliometric indicators, providing insight and recommendations based on the data
  • Build strong and productive relationships with members, partner organisations and other key stakeholders
  • Manage the appointments to Editorial Boards process
  • Providing input into financial decision making in respect of usage of Editorial Board travel funds and journal marketing budgets
  • Liaising with the Marketing and Communications teams to ensure all journal activities and opportunities are clearly communicated to all audiences.

Ideal candidates will have previous experience of working in academic publishing with a demonstrable background in managing and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with prior experience of influencing senior academics and industry professionals is required. Suitable candidates will have a Biosciences degree or the equivalent experience and have had prior involvement in strategic planning including allocating resources and managing budgets effectively. It would be desirable if candidates had up-to-date knowledge of scholarly communications and an interest in or understanding of microbiology.
