Exclusive, Featured, Retained VP Data Platform – SaaS

Our client, one of the world’s fastest growing and most successful eLearning SaaS platform providers for technical and business teams, is seeking a VP, Data Platform to lead on their enterprise-wide data and information strategy, architecture, quality, analytics platforms, data governance and data access policies, and share the responsibility for data security and policy development.

We’re looking for an experienced candidate to build a new team and actionable plan to re-implement and manage the corporate data infrastructure to meet the needs of the business for the next decade.
Reporting to the CFO the VP, Data Platform role will work in close collaboration with all functional areas of the business, especially strategizing with the executive team. The VP, Data Platform will partner closely with the Chief Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer to establish data retention policies based upon business risk analysis and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities will include:
- Own the vision, creation, implementation and management of enterprise-wide data architecture
- Define, align and evolve the Data Platform strategy and roadmap
- Own the creation and maturation of data governance processes and define data quality standards and metrics
- Own the implementation and management of the corporate data analytics framework, including the business intelligence platform and data access layers in support of business-unit specific reporting and analytics solutions
- Ensure data is treated as a high-value corporate asset, and communicate the value of data as such
- Turning the data assets into value for our organization, and exploring the potential for monetizing data
- Build and manage a team of 5+ FTE, plus manage data-related consultancy engagements
- Work with your team and stakeholders across the company to implement analytical data architecture
- Organize, plan and manage data management projects with the support of project management
- Collaborate with other teams on timely data solutions delivery
- Maintain and communicate overall total cost of ownership of corporate data solutions
- Ensure implementation of data privacy and security processes based upon CISO, DPO, executive team, and regulatory inputs
- Communicate business impact and cost justifications to the executive team on ongoing initiatives as well as new emerging technologies.
The successful candidate will have strong leadership qualities with a background in building a data platform team, proven experience of data architecture and improving/modernising data systems ideally within a growing SaaS operating at a Senior Director or above level. Expert understanding of big data environments and modern data analytics platforms along with implementing data governance processes is essential. Recognising the importance of mentoring staff and keeping a collaborative, respectful environment is also required. Solid experience with Python, GCP and PostgreSQL is required.
